"He Has Done Great Things"

"He Has Done Great Things"
Scripture: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent his not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (John 3:16-17)."
If we were to take the time to look back over our lives today, tomorrow, or in the days to come we can all agree that God has demonstrated His love for us so many, many times. We can all truly say that because of this great love that He has for us that He has done great things. Just thinking about the great things that He allowed to happen last week, or the past weekend, today, or just a few seconds or minutes ago, even within the last hour, we could shout Halleuliah. For we can truly say that He has done great things in our lives. We could be dead sleeping in our graves, but he has spared us and we are still alive enjoying our families and friends. We are in good health, and are still in our right minds. We have food, clothing , shelter, transportation to get to and from our jobs that He gave us. He woke us early this morning, our family circles were not broken, and some of us didn't even take the time to say "Thank You God for blessing me to see another day." But he still allowed us to go about our daily activities. He has done great things. Somebody thought they were going to get bad results from tests results, but God intervened and turned things around. Somebody's love ones were delivered and set free from drug and alcohol abuse. Doors were opened for many people who saw no hope. God turned the impossibles to possibilities. Marriages were healed, relationships were mended, debts have been cancelled, and many, many more blessing that we don't even have room to name. He has done great things!
Truly we cannot tell of all the great things that He has done. His greatness just did not begin today, yesterday or even a hundred years gao. His greatness began in the beginning of time. For the Bible tells us that in the beginning He created the heaven and the earth and everything in it. Then he created Adam and from Adam's rib He created Eve. He has done great things! He took a one hundred year old man named Abraham and his ninety year old wife named Sarah and blessed them with a son. He has done great things! After 400 years of being in slavery He delivered a nation of people and loved them and took care of them. He blessed them to get to a land filled with milk and honey. All their needs were met. In spite of the fact that they were rebellious and disobedient, He still loved and blessed them. Even when they were enslaved to the Babylonians because of their disobedience, God was still with them. He proved that He was still their God. He delivered Daniel from the den of lions. He delivered Shadrack, Meshack, and Abednego from the fiery furnace. Even after the Babylonian captivity when they were free to go back to Jerusalem, He still delivered the ones who stayed in Babylonia from destruction. He has done great things!
Not only did He do great things in the Old Testament, He did great things in the New Testament too. For the Bible tells us that"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life. For he sent not his Son into the world to condeemn the world but that the world through him might be saved. (John 3:16-17)." Again He has done great things. The greatest thing He did for us was to sacrifice His only begotten Son for our sins and for the sins of the entire world. His Son was Him in the flesh. Through His Son He taught us many things. For over three years He demonstrated His love, compassion, and power. He did many great things. One day there was a marrriage in Cana of Galilee. Jesus was there with His mother and some of His disciples. When there was no more wine, His mother came to Him. She knew that He was capable of getting the job done. He did just as she expected. He provided wine by turning water into wine. This was His first miracle but others were going to follow. One day while he was on his way to heal a man named Jarius' daughtr a lady who had an issue of blood for twelve long years pushed her way through the crowd to reach Him. She believed that if she could only touched the hem of his garment thart she would be healed of this disease. She pressed her way through the crowd and touched the hem of His garment. Immediately she was healed. Jesus told her that it was not the hem of the garment that healed her, but that it was her faith. He continued to Jarius' house and healed his daughter. He has done great thungs! He opened the eyes of the blind, cast out demons, healed the leprosy, raised Lazarus from the grave, and made the lame walk. One day while he was traveling He met a funeral procession. He had compassion for a mother who was on her way to bury her son. She had already buried her husband and now she was on her way to bury her only son. He spoke life back into this mother's son. He has done great things.
Finally when He had done all that His Heavenly Father sent Him to do, He was turnrd over to the hands of the enemies. They mocked Him. Then they beat Him beyond recognition. . They gave Him thirty-nine painful stripes on His back. You see these weren't soft licks. Every time they hit him on His back they would ripped His flesh. This would make the crucifixion more painful. Hanging a person on a cross was the most demeaning manner of putting a person to death. This was what they did for slaves whom they considered to be less than human. Now they were doing the same thing to our Lord and Savior. He has done great things! Then they crucified Him. To crucify means to put to death on a cross. After a criminal had carried his own cross, a hole was dug in the earth to receive the foot of the cross. The cross was laid on the ground. Then the person for execution was stripped and laid on it, and soldiers then fastened their hands and feet either by nails or thongs. They used nails for Jesus. After they had driven the nails deeply into the wood, they elevated the cross with the agonizing sufferer on it. In order to fit it more securely in the ground, they let it fall more violently into the hole. The sudden fall would give the person a sudden and convulsive shock, and greatly increased the suffering. Jesus went through all of this just for you and me. He has done great thungs! He didn't have to do it, but he did it because He loved us.
We should never forget the great things that He has done and continues to do each moment of the day. No matter who we think we are or how much we think that we have accumulated and possess, we could not have done anything without God. It is only by His grace and mercy that we can get up from our beds in the mornings and He allows us to do the things that we do. We serve a Great God, one who forgives us when we are in our mess. He still loves us and keeps blessings us over and over again. He never leaves nor forsakes us. He is better to us than wha we are to ourselves. He is a great God and He has done great things. We should give Him praises for His greatness!

A Great God

You are the Great God,
The great King above all gods,
In Your hands are the depths of the earth,
And the summits of the mountains are Yours too.
The sea is Yours, for You made it,
And Your hands formed the dry land.
You are our God and we are the people of Your pasture
And the Sheep under Your care
All the earth shouts joyfully to You, O Lord
We worship You with gladness.
We come before You with joyful singing
You, O Lord, are God.
It is You who have made us and not we ourselves.
We are Your people and the sheep of Your pasture
You are a Great God.
Amen!

"All You Need Is Love"

"All You Need Is Love"

Scripture: Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law?

Jesus said unto him, THOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD THY GOD WITH ALL THY HEART, AND WITH ALL THY SOUL, AND WITH ALL THY MIND.

This is the first and great commandment.

And the second is like unto it, THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF.

(Matthew 22:6-39)."

One of the most popular words in the dictionary is probably love. We find ourselves saying it all the time. We love certain kinds of foods, certain beverages, flowers, certain types of music, clothing, furniture, sports, and the list goes on. Although we have choices about loving material things or not loving them, we don't have a choice about the kind of people we choose to love. God has made it plain and clear that we are to love everyone because everyone is our neighbor.

We find here in our text that a lawyer asked Jesus "Teacher which is the greatest commandment?" We know that on the tablet of stone that God gave to Moses that there were 10 commandments. However, the Jews actually had 613 laws. There were 248 do's and 365 don'ts. Now that was a lot of do's and don'ts. Can you imagine trying to figure out what to do and what not to do? But listen to what Jesus said to the lawyer. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." Then he told him that this was the greatest commandment. And he said that the second was like unto it "Thou shalt love your neighbor as yourself." He told him that on those two commandments hang all the law and the prophet. In other words Jesus was saying that if we could keep these two commandments, we wouldn't have any trouble keeping the rest.

What God is still trying to get us to understand today is that all we really need is love. For if we should gain everything in the world and not have love, we really haven't gain anything of value. As Christian men and women we should search our hearts and ask our Heavenly Father to help us love our sisters and brothers. It is time for us to drop the foolishness and begin to love one another as God has already instructed us to do so. Whatever we have within us that is causing us not to grow in love, we need to get rid of it. In Paul's letter to the Hebrews Chapter 12:1, He says to them"Wherefore seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. Love for our Heavenly Father and for one another is the force that will allow us to run this spiritual race that God wants us to run every day of our lives. Yes someone may have hurt us, angered us, and perhaps even caused us to experience a lot of unnecessary disappointments. But as Christians it is time for us to build bridges and cross over to the other side and leave those ill feelings toward one another behind us. Is there anything worth causing us to lose out on making Heaven our eternal resting place? We should be like Paul for he said "For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 7:38-39)." All we need is love and everything else will fall in place.

If we know that we have something in our hearts that is blocking us from loving everyone, we need to ask God to take it away. He will hear our prayers and take away the hurt, pain sorrow, rejection, humiliation, and anything else that is causing us not to walk in love the way God desires for us to do. When we have that love we can sing the words to this song"Love Lifted Me."

I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore
Very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more
But the master of the sea, heard my despairing cry.
From the waters lifted me, now safe am I.

Refrain
Love Lifted me!
Lovw lifted me
When nothing else could help
Love Lifted me.

All my heart to Him I give, ever to Him I'll cling
In His blessed presence live, ever His praises sings.
Faithful loving service to Him belongs.

Refrain
Souls in danger look above, Jesus completely saves.
He will lift you by His love, out of the angry waves.
He is the master of the sea, billows His will obey.
He your Savior wants to be, be saved today.

Refrain

All you need is love, ask God to fill your heart right now with His precious love. Your life will never be the same.
